A Change of Pace
This weekend, I was supposed to be lacing up for the final long run prior to One City Marathon (March 13). Then I received a message from Eric, he found a local half marathon in Williamsburg that was still taking registrations. The Sentara Colonial Half Marathon, 37th annual half marathon, a race that supports the William and Mary track & field and cross country teams. The course starts/finishes on the William and Mary campus and travels through downtown Williamsburg, and typically has over 1,000 runners.
After looking over the race details, I decided to forgo my long run and join him in this race. This half marathon is three weekends out from my goal marathon. Last year, I was able to PR at One City and this year I am hoping to do it again. By doing the race this weekend allows me to fully recover before the big day.
I have always been told never buy anything leading up to a marathon. This old adage might be true – hindsight will tell me if I should have listened here too. Psychologically, this race sounds like a great idea…13.1 miles verse 24 miles.
There will be a beer garden too!
I will publish the race report between mid-terms and packing for my next adventure.
