Monthly Recap – May
May has been a bit of slow month after a quick trip to Arizona. Like April, in May I began the month with an ultra-marathon. This time the ultra was bit longer and definitely my longest run logged at one time. The Grand Canyon was an adventure of a lifetime, so far. You can read about it here.
As part of my recovery from such run, I decided to break out my BH Speedrom Road Bike. After knocking off the accumulated dust, and airing up the tires, I was off building calluses between me and the seat. It has been about a year since I clipped-in and tackled the open road. Needless to say, I was extremely sore after a couple miles, and even more so when I rode again a couple days later.
I killed two birds with one stone when I had to return some items in Williamsburg. I decided to check out the Virginia Capital Trail. This is a bicycle and pedestrian trail between Williamsburg, Jamestown and Richmond. I was not sure how far I was going until I think I was too far. I was at the 15-mile mark wondering if I had gone too far or not, but then I kept seeing a sign for the Charles City Courthouse. Why not, it was only an extra 5 miles – oops make that 10 on the return trip. I think once Tropical Storm Bonnie exits the area I am going to travel a bit farther and see what’s around the next bend in the trail.
My monthly running mileage was a bit low, but I did run the Grand Canyon for goodness sake.
Now it is time to get ready for my next running expedition. Seattle, Washington here I come. Decided to run the Seattle Rock n’ Roll Half Marathon seeing how I was going to be in town surprising my daughter.
